Don “Butch” Turcotte was best known for his involvement in minor hockey. He was a visionary, who along with some key people, established the inaugural AAA team in North Bay in the early 80’s. He ran numerous local hockey tournaments, as well as a successful hockey school for 20+ years. Both drew people from all over Ontario and the United States. The highlight of Butch’s involvement in hockey was winning the National Championship with his Midget AAA Pinehill Coffee Shop team in front of a full house at Memorial Gardens.
As both a coach and a high school teacher, he is described as influential, memorable, kind-hearted, unique and relentless.
You know Butch was fond of you, if you were greeted with his well-known “two-punches”!
Butch’s wings are inspired by the maple syrup he boiled with sap from the trees in his neighbourhood and his fiery personality.
